Panic as lightning strikes eight cows to dead in Ondo

A lightning strike has claimed the lives of eight cows in Ori-Ohin community, located in Ifon, the headquarters of Ose Local Government Area in Ondo State.  

The sad event reportedly took place on Sunday evening during a heavy rainfall, throwing the entire community into a state of panic.

Speaking in a telephone conversation with Channels Television, the spokesperson of the Ondo State Police Command, Olayinka Ayanlade, confirmed the incident and expressed sadness over the loss.

He described the situation as an unfortunate but natural occurrence.

Ayanlade added that police authorities have reached out to the community heads to ensure the incident does not lead to controversy.

A similar incident happened in 2019 in Ijare, Ifedore Local Government Area of Ondo State, where thunder and lightning killed 36 cows on a hill in the community.
